Edith Lawson Obituary

Mrs. Edith Clara Holloway Lawson, 89 of Hohenwald left this life to receive her eternal reward on August 9,2020 in her home surrounded by family.  Mrs. Lawson was born in Summertown, TN on November 16,1930 to the late Cord Jones and Phenia (Langham) Holloway.  Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Leon Lawson; sisters Fara May “Little Sister” Holloway and Dorothy Elizabeth Holloway Hinson; brothers Garlon Monroe, Lewis Hanner, and Buford Cordell Holloway; nephews Buford Lee “Boo” Holloway and Jimmy “Jimbo” Stephens; a niece Laura Faye Moore; and sisters in law Louise Stephens and Era Moore.  Mrs. Edith was a lifetime member of Pineview Church of Christ before the building was even in place. Having been a member for over 75 years, she recalled moving furniture in a house to hold worship.  On July 27,1951 after two months of dating she married her soulmate Leon Lawson in the house of a close friend and together they raised two beautiful daughters in their 63 years of marriage.

She began her career at a local laundry mat and post office before landing a supervisor position at Henry I. Siegel where she would later retire after 38 years of service. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking for her family, canning goods from her garden and quilting.  She enjoyed being outside tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. Edith had a green thumb that could grow anything and everything often resulting in beautiful rose and flower gardens.  Her true joy in life was her family.  Not one thing was more important than spending time with those she loved. It was often believed that she spoiled her grandbabies just a little but that is what grandmothers are for.

Mrs. Lawson leaves behind to cherish her memory daughters Angela Diann Lawson O’Guin (Paul) of Centerville, TN, and Vickie Lynn Lawson Bates (Kenneth) of Hohenwald, TN; grandchildren Jason Paul O’Guin (Michelle) of Centerville, Alan Lawson O’Guin (Roxanne) of Centerville, Johnathan Leon Bates (Leanna) of Hohenwald, and Kenley Louis Bates (Beth Ann) of Waynesboro; great grandchildren Kyla Cerena O’Guin, Carter Lane O’Guin, Gavin Michael Bates, Harper Maddison Bates, Oliver Marshall Tate Bates, and Tobe Laine Bates; sister in law Peggy Sue Holloway of Trenton, GA; many loving nieces and nephews; and a special caretaker and friend Julie Baxter.

Visitation with family and friends will be held Tuesday August 11,2020 from 3:00-9:00 in the funeral home chapel.  Funeral service will begin at 3:00 on Wednesday August 12,2020 with burial to follow at Swiss Cemetery.  Brothers Steve Holloway, Paul O’Guin and Kenley Bates will be officiating.
