Gena Murphy Obituary

Gena Murphy, a woman known for her warmth and kindness, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, at the age of 76, in Columbia, TN. Born on May 22, 1949, in Clarksville, TN, Gena's life was characterized by her unwavering love for her family, her dedication to her work, and her passion for the simple joys in life.

Gena was the cherished daughter of the late Paul Edwards and Mary Francis McDaniel. Her journey through life was marked by the love and lessons from her parents, which she carried forward in her own role as a mother and grandmother. Gena's family was the cornerstone of her world. She was a devoted mother to her children, Allen Murphy and Samantha Murphy Brannen, and a mother-in-law to Cole Brannen. Her love only grew with the birth of her granddaughter Madison Murphy and her great-grandchild Rayah Morton. Although her sister Linda Edwards predeceased her, Gena's memory of love and kindness continues through her family.

During her professional life, Gena was a dedicated switchboard operator at AT&T. Her friendly voice and helpful demeanor were a comfort to countless individuals who had the pleasure of interacting with her. Gena was not only committed to her work but also to the connections she formed through her association involvement. She was a familiar face to many and will be remembered for her willingness to lend an ear or a helping hand.

Gena's interests were a mirror of her personality—full of life and a little bit of mystery. An avid reader of horror books and a fan of scary movies, she found joy in the thrill of a good story. Her love for wildlife was evident in her care for her Great Pyrenees and the time she spent observing the beauty of nature. Gena also found relaxation in coloring, solving crosswords, and most importantly, spending quality time with her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchild brought immense joy to her life, and she cherished every moment she spent with them.

Those who knew Gena will remember her as the best mother and mother-in-law one could ask for. She was loving, kind, and friendly—qualities that drew people to her and made them feel at ease in her presence. Gena's warm smile and compassionate spirit will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
