On May 30, 2023, heaven welcomed a truly Godly man when Mr. James T. Quillen walked through the pearly gates. He was born in Lewis County on December 11, 1949, to the late Author and Carlene Rogers Quillen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Nickie Quillen and his uncle Thomas Earl Quillen.
In his passing, he leaves behind to carry on his memory, his wife of 52 years Mrs. Melissa Quillen; his uncle Rex Rogers of Chattanooga; his most perfect nephew Austin Scott Pitts; and his favorite and best sister-in-law Glenda Smotherman.
James truly spent his life giving to others. From proudly serving in the United States Marines to helping anyone and everyone that needed it. Everyone that knew him would agree there wasn’t any other hard-working man like James. He made his career working in Plant Operations at Maury Regional and Lewis Health Center.
During his down time, he enjoyed strumming on one of his many guitars and listening to gospel music. He would even play for worship services at church. James was always known to be a people person that never met a stranger and was always willing to share one of his many stories with all that would listen. There will never be another man like James Thurman Quillen.
Visitation with family and friends will be held Sunday June 11, 2023, from 1:00 until time of service at 2:00 pm. Burial with Military Honors will follow the service at Memorial Gardens. Adair Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements.
