James Taylor Skelton

James Taylor Skelton, age 45, of Hohenwald, Tennessee, passed away on June 8, 2026. He was born on July 29, 1980, in Linden, Tennessee, and lived a life that was full of laughter, friendship, generosity, and love for the people around him.

James was the son of Ralph and Edna Walker Skelton. He was a beloved brother to Brandi Sharp and a proud uncle to Brennan and Briar Sharp. He was also deeply loved by his extended family, including his aunts and uncles Vickie and Dana Scates, Pam Cotham, Charlotte Runions, Michael Walker, Rodney and Lexa Walker, Jeff Skelton, and Yvonne Staggs. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Doris and Ralph Skelton, James Walker, and Dessie Nell Skelton, as well as his aunt Anita and Larry Jones and his uncle Brant Staggs. James also leaves behind a host of cousins, relatives, and dear friends who were blessed by his presence throughout his life.

James was especially cherished by the many friends who became more like family to him. Shelly, Harper, Denise Webb, Kellie and Tony McGee, Travis McKissack, Lisa Tibbs, Braden Pace, Kashia O’Guin and Robb and Kaysi Morse, and many others held a special place in his heart. He had a gift for making people feel welcome and valued, and he formed lasting bonds with those fortunate enough to know him. His friendships were built on loyalty, laughter, and a genuine care for others that never went unnoticed.

He was a loyal member of the Lewis County Elks Lodge from the day the chapter began and served as a previous exalted ruler of the Elks Club. His involvement with the lodge reflected the kind of man he was, one who believed in fellowship, service, and showing up for others. James was known for being generous and for helping those in the community whenever he could. He took pride in being part of something bigger than himself and was respected for the commitment he showed to the organization and to the people around him.

Those who knew James will remember him for his love of laughing and having a good time. He was always the life of the party, and he brought energy and joy wherever he went. He loved river life, boating, dancing, and singing, and he embraced each day with a spirit that was lively and full of fun. He was always smiling, and his smile had a way of brightening every room he entered. James was also known for his one-liners, which were especially memorable to his family and friends and often brought laughter at just the right moment.

James will be remembered as funny, friendly, and generous. He had a warm personality and a kind heart, and he made life better for those around him simply by being himself. His presence was a source of comfort and joy, and his memory will continue to live on in the stories, laughter, and love shared by all who knew him.

A Celebration of James will be held on Saturday, June 13, at 2:00 p.m. at the Elks Lodge in Hohenwald, Tennessee. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a man whose life was marked by kindness, humor, and a deep love for others. This truly will be a day of “All about James”, so in honor of James, those attending are asked to wear his favorite color, blue.
