James Tommy Eastep Obituary

James Tommy Eastep, a cherished family man known for his loving and generous spirit, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2024, in Columbia, TN. Born on July 2, 1952, in Springhill, TN, Tommy was a bundle of kindness and joy to all who knew him throughout his 71 years.

Raised in the unique environment of an orphanage where his late parents, Jessie Lee Eastep Sr. and Maggie Carene Dugger Eastep, worked, Tommy developed an early sense of community and service. His childhood experiences at the orphanage instilled in him the values of compassion and helpfulness, which he carried with him throughout his life, often seen in his willingness to assist with the transportation of the local Amish community.

Tommy's passion for life was evident in his love for bowling, fishing, riding his 4-wheeler and softball. These activities were more than hobbies; they were ways for him to connect with friends, share laughter, and create lasting memories. Above all, his greatest joy was the time he spent with his beloved grandchildren, who were the light of his life.

A devoted father, Tommy is survived by his loving daughter, Christy Michelle Eastep Nash and her husband Walter Nash Jr. He was a proud grandfather to Walter Nash III and his wife Sarah, Brianna Christine Nash Hull and her husband Timmy Jr., Justin I. Nash, and Hayley Ann Nash Cochran and her husband Michael. His legacy continues through his cherished great-grandchildren, Timmy Hull III, Aria Hull, Parker Hull, Esther Nash, and the soon-to-be-born August Easton James Hull, a namesake honoring Tommy's memory. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and a brother in-law Deane Chase.

Tommy's life was also marked by loss, including his dear son James Grady Eastep and his siblings Jessie Lee Eastep Jr., Clemons Ray Eastep and wife Irene, and Annette Sue Eastep Chase.

Those who knew Tommy will remember his infectious smile, his warm embrace, and his unwavering kindness. Tommy was one who loved to make jokes and tease everyone who surrounded him. He had a natural ability to make each person he met feel valued and loved. His generosity knew no bounds, and he often went out of his way to help others without expecting anything in return. Tommy was always willing to step in when his family was in need of anything.

Visitation with family and friends will be held Thursday March 21, 2024, from 10:00 until 12:00 pm. The family will take a break and begin visitation back at 1:00 pm until the time of service of 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Sheboss Cemetery.
