John Gustafson Obituary

John Michael Gustafson, 66, of Hohenwald, Tennessee, passed away on March 25, 2026. He was born on November 20, 1959, in Waukegan, Illinois, and lived a life marked by kindness, friendship, and devotion to the people and places he loved.

John was the son of the late Robert and Joan Vanderspool Gustafson. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 33 years, Debbie Nee Chumbley Gustafson, whose memory remained an important part of his life. In addition, he was preceded in death by two nieces and nephew. Those who knew John will remember that he carried his family close to his heart and spoke of them with great love and pride.

He is survived by his sons, David (Nichole) Gustafson, and Bryan (Debra) Gustafson. He also leaves behind his brothers, Bob and Jim, and sisters Bonnie, and Sally, along with his cherished grandchildren, Payton, Gavin, Seth, Caleb, and Ally. He also leaves behind to carry on his memory, Brother-in-laws Dale (T.) Chumley and Jeff; sister-in-law Nancy; and a host of cousins, friends and close family up north. His family was a source of great joy to him, and he treasured every opportunity to spend time with them, share stories, and enjoy the simple moments that became lasting memories.

He found happiness in the everyday things that brought peace and satisfaction. John enjoyed gardening and took pride in caring for his yard. He also had a fondness for tractors and appreciated the work and usefulness they represented. Mowing the yard was more than a chore to him, as it was something he approached with care and attention. These interests reflected his steady nature and the value he placed on hard work, order, and the beauty of a well-kept home. For 40 years, Mr. John was a member of the local 150 union, showing his dedication and commitment to those around him.  He was always there for anyone who needed help.

A celebration of life memorial service will take place at a later time. Adair Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements.
