In the evening hours of April 23,2021 Mr. Michael William Monroe Sr. peacefully passed away at his Hohenwald home surrounded by family. He was born in Hermosa Beach, CA on March 27, 1945 to the late William A. and Elise L. (Old) Monroe. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Ted R. Monroe.
Mr. Monroe enlisted in the United States Army after completing one year of college following his high school graduation. During his active military career, he was deployed to Korea from October 1968 to October 1969. He remained in the Armed Forces for an additional 11 years earning the title of SGT E-5 before retiring and beginning his career in the trucking transportation industry. He was a member of the local American Legion. During his free time, he enjoyed sitting on the banks of the river fishing, and spending time with those he loved the most, his family.
Mr. Michael is survived by his children Elizabeth K. Vandaveer, Michael W. Monroe Jr., and Donald C. Monroe, siblings Patrick L. Monroe, Howard E. Monroe, Danny L. Monroe, Linda K. Shirley, and Robert L. Shirley. Mr. Monroe also leaves behind to cherish his memory seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; 14 nieces and nephews; 24 great nieces and nephews; and 2 great-great nieces.
Visitation with family and friends will be held at Adair Funeral & Cremation Services on Tuesday April 27,2021 from 12:00-2:00 pm. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 with brother Pat Monroe officiating. No burial will follow for Michaels wishes were to be cremated following the service.
