Paul Raines

Milton Paul Raines, affectionately known as Paul, "went home" to be with Jesus on February 10, 2026, in Columbia, TN, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering faith and boundless love. Born on
September 22, 1944, in Nashville, TN, Paul was the shining light in the lives of many, touching hearts with his spirited nature and his enduring dedication to his family and community.

Paul was the cherished husband of Martha Hodges Raines, with whom he shared over 60 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Kimberly (Terry) Latham and
Steven (Tracy) Raines, who added joy and purpose to his life. Paul was a brother to Reynolds (Janie) Raines, J.W. (Effie) Raines, Billy (Ella Mae) Raines, Annie Myrtle Raines, Sandra (Eddie)
Colwell, Doris Muskopf, and Helen (Jimmy) McCutcheon. He was a loving grandfather to Tyler (Susan) Raines, Chris (Taylor) Spurlock, Bella ”Grace” Raines, Tony (Savanna) Vandusen, Sawyer Latham, and Kayley Latham, and a proud great-grandfather to Lincoln Raines. He was a life-long friend, brother, & partner in crime to John (Pat) Godfrey.

Paul’s life was a testament to his faith-filled heart, he truly lived what he believed.  He was a graduate of Baptist Bible College with a degree in Theology, which laid the foundation for his over 50 years of pastoral service. He celebrated this golden milestone in May of 2014 but didn't retire from his charge to spread the gospel until he "went home" to meet Jesus Tuesday morning. Simply put, Paul loved Jesus and Paul loved people. If given half a chance, he tried to introduce the two. He never met a stranger.  His giving heart was surpassed only by his capacity to love.

 Paul enjoyed working in his yard, spending time with family and playing jokes whenever the opportunity arose.  His ability to surprise people with his “Dog mumps” jokes was unparalleled, leaving a trail of laughter wherever he went. And in fact, the family is on edge as Paul always said he was going to ask God if he could be in charge of the lightning when he got to heaven. The concern is rain is in the forecast for the day of his funeral.

Paul’s presence was a gift to all who knew him, and his spirit will continue to inspire those he has left behind. Milton Paul Raines was a man of God, a loving family man, and a friend to all. His presence was of comfort and his wisdom a guiding light. He lived a life of service, spreading joy and kindness with a generous heart. Paul’s memory will be forever cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know him, and his memory will live on in the countless lives he touched.

Visitation with family will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, from 10:00-2:00 pm in the chapel of Adair Funeral & Cremation Services. The service will begin at 2:00 pm with Tyler
Raines and Chris Spurlock officiating, followed by the burial at Memorial Gardens in Hohenwald. Serving as Paul-bearers are Tony Vandusen, Steven Raines, Troy Burr, Steve Adkins, Tommy Harris, David McCutcheon, Bella Raines, and Lincoln Raines.
