Raymond Tanner Obituary

Raymond Paul Tanner, a cherished patriarch and respected member of the community, departed this life on November 30, 2023, at the age of 85. Born on July 2, 1938, in Pleasantville, TN, he was the son of the late Emmett and Emma Lee Tanner. Raymond's life was a testament to his enduring love for his family and his passion for the timber industry.

In the warm embrace of Hohenwald, TN, surrounded by the love of his family, Raymond passed away, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and dedication. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Mrs. Rebecca Williams Tanner, and their loving children: John Paul (Clasha) Tanner, Connie (Jerry) Churchwell, Bobby (Stacey) Tanner, Glen (Jenny) Tanner, Julie (Allen) Taylor, and Rick Stevens. Raymond was a supportive brother to Dorothy (Wilson) Staggs and Sammy Tanner. He was proceeded in death by his siblings Martha Qualls, Virginia Kilpatrick, Janie Tanner, Harlan Tanner, and Ray Tanner.

Raymond's life was further enriched by the joy of his grandchildren: Treston Tanner, Allison Tanner, Amelia Tanner, Morgan (Devon) Brewer, Hayden (Janna) Harper, Ian (Ella) Harper, Jordan (Shawnna) Tanner, Shelby (Lucas) Graham, Ethan (Carson) Tanner, Ashlyn (Myles) Brewer, Madelyn (Josh) Garrison, Reagan Taylor, Grant (Gracey) Taylor, and Gavin Taylor (Kennedi Potts). His great-grandchildren Audrey and Lincoln Garrison, Violet and Jax Brewer, Evie, Hendrix, Hawkins, Jovie, and Zephie Brewer, Maddox, Rowan, and Hattie Tanner, Race Anderson, Maverick, Briggs, and Truitt Tanner, and Forrest Taylor will miss their great-grandfather deeply. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Mallory Taylor.

A self-employed timber businessman, Raymond was known for his strong work ethic and his significant contributions to the industry. His colleagues respected him for his honesty and his straightforward approach to business. Outside of work, Raymond enjoyed spending time with his family the most. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, to whom he gave special nicknames that reflected his unique bond with each of them.

Those who knew Raymond will remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His kindness and gentle manner left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was the kind of man who would offer help without hesitation and whose generosity knew no bounds.

He was a man who loved the Lord. He and his wife have attended Blondy Church for 43 years and adored his church family. Raymond built a family, a business, and a community that reflected the best of his values—love, kindness, and generosity. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
