Ritchie Brewer Obituary

Mr. Ritchie Leroy Brewer unexpectedly passed away on December 28, 2021, at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia. He was born December 23, 1949, at the Boyce Clinic in Hohenwald to the late Virgil and Pearl Morrison Brewer. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters Joyce James, Betty Jo James, and Linda Zimmerman and his brothers James, Ray, Tony, and Carl Brewer.

Mr. Brewer enlisted in the United States Air Force to proudly serve his country. After leaving the armed forces he held many titles including county commissioner for Lewis County.  He was an active member of the American Legion and V.F.W. in Lewis County. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, golfing, and landscaping.  Ritchie attended New Hope Baptist Church where he was an active member for several years.

Where does one begin when describing the accomplishments and dedication of Ritchie Brewer?  A man that dedicated years of his life to take care of veterans of not only Lewis County but other surrounding counties. For 15 years he worked countless hours getting assistance for families through his role as the Lewis County Veteran Service Officer. Ritchie was one who always went above and beyond the scope of the job. He would travel to homes to help fill out paperwork or drive our veterans and families where they needed to go. Ritchie has managed to bring in millions of dollars in grants and donations to make sure families were taken care of. There was never a hesitation when someone called for help, and they knew they could always count on him in their time of need. He tackled any task at hand and did his best to make sure it was completed. The legacy he has left behind will be one that will be cherished by the many lives he has touched. He was loved by all and will truly leave a void in our small community of Hohenwald.

Mr. Ritchie is survived by his wife of 44 years Mrs. Connie Entrekin Brewer; his children Shawn (Amy) Hale, Mitzi Runions, and Jennifer Brewer; grandchildren Dereck (Cassie) Hale, Dawson Runions, Destinye Runions, Rachel Gaston, Samantha Boone, Kensie Reeves and Caleb Lawson; and two great grandchildren. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory his sister Dorothy (Donald) Crowell and two brothers David Brewer and Wayne (Linda) Brewer.

Visitation with family and friends will begin at 9:00 am on Saturday January 1, 2022, until time of service of 12:00 at New Hope Baptist Church.  Burial will immediately follow at memorial gardens in Hohenwald. Brother Jerry McDonald will be officiating.
