Robert Lee Bates

Robert Lee Bates, passed away on July 18, 2025, in Columbia, TN. He was born on December 4, 1959, in Linden, TN, to the late Edwin Leo and Clara Roberta Bates, Robert's infectious smile and generous spirit were cultivated in the heart of his loving family from the very beginning.

Robert's journey through life was marked by dedication and service, as he spent over three decades as a trusted truck driver and delivery man for Purity Milk. Affectionately known as the "Milk Man," he became a familiar and welcome presence throughout the community. His commitment to his work was matched only by his commitment to his family and friends.

Survived by his son Cody Bates and wife Katy, grandchildren Piper and Mitchell Bates, and his siblings Keith and Neal Bates, Robert's memory will live on through the stories and laughter he shared with them. His enduring friendship with his former spouse and caregiver, Donise Bates continued until his passing. His stories and memories will continue on through his nieces Michelle Kennedy, Rachel Abair, Cassie Kellogg, and Kendra Bates, as well as his nephew Kyle Bates.

The family invites those who knew and loved Robert to join them in a celebration of his life. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm in the chapel of Adair Funeral & Cremation Services. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm, with Brother Jeff Gandy officiating. Following the service, Robert will be laid to rest at Downey Cemetery.
