William Leegan Obituary

Surrounded by his family, William Lafate Leegan passed away peacefully Sunday, April 11,2021 at his home in Buffalo, TN. William’s wishes were to be cremated with Adair Funeral & Cremation Services of Hohenwald, TN who will assist the family with the arrangements.

William was born March 11,1941 in Lobelville, TN and grew up in Perry County. He was preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Loudean Talley Leegan; his stepson Rodney Bigham; his grandson Jesse Blackburn; and his brothers Earl and Charles Leegan.

William attended school in Perry County and was a graduate of Nashville Auto and Diesel College in Nashville, TN.

Mr. Leegan was self-employed and owned Leegan’s Garage and Wrecker Service in the I-40/Buffalo area for 40 years. He worked every day, side by side with his brothers until their deaths operating the towing service and repairing vehicles. He and his wife, Linda also successfully owned and operated Cuba Landing Restaurant on I-40 at exit 137 for 45 years before retiring.

William was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He and his son, Phillip enjoyed many trips to Atlanta to watch the Braves play. He enjoyed car shows and never lost his love for old vehicles from the fifties and sixties. He also enjoyed watching westerns and wrestling.

William was a Christian, a believer who practiced what he believed. Through the years, he had the opportunity to help many people who were down on their luck and stranded on I-40, and he fed many strangers passing by at Cuba Landing Restaurant.

William is survived by his wife of forty years, Linda Choate Leegan. He is also survived by his son, Phillip (Darla) Leegan; his daughters Angela Shawn (Terry) Blackburn and Reba (Marty) Byrd; and his special son, Dennis (Heather) Leegan; his sister Dorothy Spurgeon; eight grandchildren James (Emily), Jessica, and Jaycee Bigham, Billy (Shelby) Harvey, Tayler Blackburn, Misty Byrd, Julia Leegan, and Mandy Spears; four great-grandchildren Joey, Silas, Rodney and Paisley; nephews Earl Leegan Jr., Travis Smith, Rodney Smith, and Daniel Rains; and a niece Rebecca Lingenfelder.
