We sadly announce the passing of a remarkable man, Mr. William Burrell Brown, affectionately known as Burrell. Burrell was born on October 23, 1937, in Hohenwald, TN, and passed on to eternal rest on August 10, 2023, in Columbia, TN. Burrell was a beacon of kindness, wisdom, and love. His family, friends, and community will forever remember him for these qualities.
Burrell was the beloved husband of Barbara Lynn Carroll Brown, cherished father of Brad Brown, and proud grandfather of Emily Brown and Tori Carroll. He was the caring brother of Sara (Jim) Tarkington and was predeceased by his sisters Opal (Raymond) Grinder and Wanda Davenport. He leaves behind his brother-in-law, Ron Davenport and a host of nieces and nephews who will miss his loving presence. Burrell was predeceased by his parents, Finley and Mavis Brown.
Burrell's life was marked by service and hard work. As a young man, he served in the United States Army, demonstrating his commitment to his country. After his military service, Burrell embarked on an entrepreneurial journey, owning and operating Brown's Variety Store for over 32 years. Burrell's dedication was evident as he worked every single day, providing for his family and serving his community. Even after retirement, he was known to lend a hand to other business owners, reflecting his generous spirit.
His work did not stop at the shop's doorstep. Burrell found fulfillment in maintaining his yard, a testament to his love for nature and his dedication to creating a beautiful environment for his family and neighbors.
Those who knew Burrell will remember him as a man of integrity and kindness. His wisdom was a guiding light for his family and those around him. He was a man who led by example, demonstrating the value of hard work, the importance of family, and the power of faith.
His legacy will continue to inspire those who had the honor of knowing him. He will be sorely missed, but his memory will live on, shining brightly in the memories of those he touched.
Visitation with family and friends will be held in the chapel of Adair Funeral & Cremation Services on Tuesday August 15 beginning at 12:30 pm until 2:00 pm. A graveside service will follow at Swiss Cemetery.
